This method provides objective measurements of dampness in various materials. Readings can be taken from the surface and at depth. For deeper readings, a radio frequency (RF) signal or drilling inspection probe holes can be used. Measurements can be expressed as either percentage wood moisture equivalent (WME) or on a 60-1000 relative scale (RS). While individual readings are useful, multiple readings are typically needed to detect changes from dry to damp over an area. By creating a moisture map of damp and dry areas, we can better understand the potential cause of the dampness and pinpoint the likely location of any leaks.
