Underground water leak detection is primarily conducted using high-resolution acoustic technology from world-leading suppliers of leak detection equipment. In simple terms, this technology acts like a listening stick, capturing sounds that are transmitted through a microphone and amplified by a machine.
With one of the largest and most diverse stocks of equipment in the UK, we actively test and compare results from different technologies to ensure the best outcomes for our clients. We use the latest generation of digital systems, which not only allow us to listen to leak noises across a broad range but also enable us to isolate specific frequencies, reducing background noise like traffic and focusing solely on the leak.
Our microphones vary in cost and functionality. Some are low-profile for tight spaces, others are mounted on small frames, some feature a 1000mm spike for inserting into the ground, and one is even nicknamed the “Elephant’s Foot.”
For optimal results, it’s best to conduct these tests in a quiet environment, as the less noise there is around, the more accurately we can pinpoint the leak.
